The match had been postponed from a month earlier as a mark of respect for the Hillsborough stadium disaster and only a few days after Liverpool's win in the F.A Cup final. Possibly the closest fought title ever, Arsenal needed to win by 2 goals or more to clinch the title, Michael Thomas infamously got that crucial goal in the final seconds of the game to win the title on goals scored.
